Concert News... An enthusiastic capacity audience enjoyed the Orchestra's first concert of the 22/23 season, an evening of European classics on Saturday 5th November, in St Mary's Church, Nottingham. The evening started with selected movements from Grieg's ever popular Peer Gynt Suite, followed by the equally loved Adagio from the ballet Spartacus by Khachaturian, theme tune of the 1970s BBC series The Onedin Line. Closing the first half was virtuoso Callum Smart performing arguably Alexander Glazunov's most popular work, his violin concerto in A minor. “Here full-blooded lyricism meets virtuoso delirious high spirits.” said BBC Music Magazine of the piece. After the interval the Orchestra played Borodin's magnificent second symphony. A wonderful evening.
Bingham & District Choral Society Golden Jubilee NSO will be providing the orchestral firepower for the final concert of Bingham & District Choral Society's 50th anniversary year on Saturday 26th November in Southwell Minster. The evening is a 'Last Night of the Proms' and the choir will be joined by Mansfield Choral Society in performing a host of traditional prom favourites, choral and orchestral pieces. For further details see the Bingham & District Choral Society web site.
Derek Williams' 40th Anniversary The 22/23 season marks a very special anniversary for our conductor, Derek Williams. It is his 40th season with the Orchestra and we will be celebrating this important milestone with a major concert on Saturday 30th September, 2023 in the Albert Hall, Nottingham. (Note, this is a change from the original date due to a clash with the Coronation.) It should be a night to remember... we hope you can join us to celebrate Derek's immense contribution to the Orchestra and to the musical life of the area.
